Hawks turn the page
As Mike Holmgren met with his players for the final time Monday, slowly, but surly, the transition began to the man who will replace Holmgren as Seahawks coach in 2009: Secondary coach Jim Mora.

Seattle on sideline as playoffs begin
The Indianapolis Colts ended the NFL regular season on a nine-game winning streak, earning the designation as a team no one would want to meet in the playoffs.

The News Tribune

Seahawks expect energy, enthusiasm from Mora
He’s been described as a hands-on coach with boundless energy who thrives on driving players to perform their best. And he had some success during his first head coaching stint with Atlanta.

What’s next for Seahawks?
At 4-12, the Seattle Seahawks finished their worst season since the franchise-worst 2-14 season in 1992.
On Monday, Seattle players cleared their lockers without reaching the postseason for the first time since 2002. And many changes appear to be in store now that coach Mike Holmgren’s 10-year reign is over.

Hawks, Holmgren go out on a losing note
The Seahawks’ makeshift offense played well enough to keep the team in Sunday’s season finale. But the defense again allowed too many big plays, as the Arizona Cardinals slapped the Seahawks with a 34-21 loss.

Seahawks’ defense burned again
The season’s biggest mystery remains how a respectable defense went so sour from one year to the next. By the simple measure of opponent points allowed this season, the Seahawks’ total of 392 was surpassed only four times in team history. It was 101 more than a year ago.

Fitzgerald wins matchup with Trufant
The Seahawks decided to have veteran cornerback Marcus Trufant shadow wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald in Sunday’s season finale against the Arizona Cardinals at University of Phoenix Stadium — rather than staying on the left side, as Trufant usually does.

Notebook: Branch proves his worth at the end
Deion Branch was limited to half-a-season because of injuries. But the Seahawks’ wide receiver finished with a flourish in Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals, catching two touchdown passes.

The News Tribune

One more loss for the road
The Seattle Seahawks’ 2008 season ended Sunday in a fashion similar to the way it began: With a demoralizing loss.

Nothing wrong about two dozen top picks can’t fix
Remember the end of last season, when we evaluated the Seahawks’ needs and the only real dire situation was at tight end?

Better late than never for Branch
Especially with a fingertip touchdown grab in the second quarter in Sunday’s game against Arizona, receiver Deion Branch displayed the kind of skills the Seahawks hoped for when they traded a first-round draft pick to get him from New England in 2006.

Even Trufant’s best is not enough
There is perhaps nothing more frustrating than when a player does his job and still gets beat.
