Urban Exploration
Four years ago, I posted a series of links to websites focused on exploring the infrequently visited places that surround us.
Now from the comfort of your desk chair, explore the “Drains of Canada.”
Some really excellent photography going on here.

I did not know that…
“Victory Gardens” were gardens planted at private residences in the US, Canada, and UK during World War 1 and 2 to help reduce pressure on the public food supply. And here I always just thought they were big, pretty gardens.
Thank you internet, for teaching me something today.
Moo StickerBook
These are too cool. I’m a fan of the cards, now I have to get the stickers too.
How old is that bottle?

Find out how old that bottle you found really is, thanks to the Historical Glass Bottle Identification & Information Website. – via Metafilter
Nikon D80
I picked up a Nikon D80 DSLR last Saturday thanks in large part to an ad I sold over at HawkNewsDaily. Check out the reviews of the D80 here and here.
As you can imagine, I’ve spent the last couple of days just trying to figure out what all the buttons do! A few of my early pictures can be found here. Go easy on me, It’s been a long time since I’ve used an SLR.
I’m really enjoying the difference that shooting in RAW makes. It seems you can more easily recover from lighting mistakes, for instance.
Even though I’m a long time Canon point-and-shoot user, I went with Nikon partly on reputation, and mostly due to my existing Nikon lens collection. When you’re suitably invested in a platform, you tend to stay with it to the bitter end.
New Camera
On Friday I picked up a new camera at Best Buy, a Canon SD750. It’s a nice little ultra-portable 7.1megapixel with a huge lcd (3 inches.) Diane “inherits” the old SD400. While I do want a DSLR at some point, you really can’t beat these little Canons. A huge camera may take great pictures, but if you don’t have it with you, what use is it? The max res is 3072×2304, which is pretty amazing.
I used it today for the “24 hours of Flickr” project. Basically you take photos on May 5th, and pick the best one to upload. It was a fun excuse to get out there and take some shots. Out of the group I took, I chose this one up above of the horses at a nearby farm.
I also picked up a 2 Gig SD card for $25. TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS. How great is that?
