Doing it the hard way.

I was thinking some more about the Giants’ playoff run, and I don’t think it could be anymore remarkable. Lets review:

  • They were on the road for all their playoff games.
  • They played and beat the #1 and #2 seeds.
  • They beat the legendary Brett Favre in HIS house.
  • They won a game in sub-arctic temperatures.
  • They got revenge on 3 teams that beat them in the regular season.
  • They beat an 18-0 team in the Superbowl.

I mean if you were a Giants fan, you have to be thrilled beyond belief. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Superbowl Weekend

Wow, what a great game! Congratulations to the NY Giants. Ordinarily I can’t stand the team, but in this instance I found myself rooting hard for their success. The evil, cheating Patriots needed to be knocked off in humiliating fashion, and the Giants were the right time at the right time.

The game was 7-3 for a long time, spurring the son of one of our guests to remark “This game is boring.” It’s true that defensive struggles aren’t for everyone, but man did this game open up in the second half. Exciting play after exciting play, mauling sacks of Tom Brady, and that miracle toss by Manning to David Tyree (that he caught off his helmet.) We were screaming.

The rest of the weekend was fantastic as well. We had some college friends down and there were 10 of us in all. Lauren loved having new friends to play with. Many Belgian ales were consumed, movies watched, and Mentos rockets launched.

That Giants/Packers game was tremendous…one of the best games I’ve seen in a long time. I blew the prediction, obviously, as I thought that the Packers would stand up on their home field. Give the Giants credit, they’ve been road warriors all year.

I thought their coach, Tom Coughlin, was going to lose part of his face due to frostbite. Seriously, it was turning purple out there.

So it’s Patriots/Giants in the big game. I have to root for the Giants. Much as I loathe them (and most of their fans) they’re a cut above the New England Patriots. The Patriot’s robotic march to perfection has been well documented, and it irritates the hell out of me. If I never see Tom Brady’s face again, I’ll be abundantly happy.

Back on the Seahawk’s front, we should learn the fate of legendary coach Mike Holmgren today. Will he retire or will he gut it out for another year? I’m betting on retirement. He was hinting at it for weeks leading up to the playoffs, and I think he’s had enough.

This probably means that the Jim Mora Jr. era is forthcoming.

This is great…

You might remember a couple of weeks ago the great “broo-ha-ha” over Jessica Simpson attending a Dallas Cowboy’s football game against the Philadelphia Eagles. She was up in the stands, wearing his jersey and supposedly distracting him.

Jessica

Now the Cowboys lost that game 10-6, but I think the loss had more to do with a Cowboy’s letdown, Tony Romo’s injured hand and the Eagle’s great gameplan than a girl in a luxury box high above the field. Still, it made for fun talk radio.

Here’s where it gets GOOD. Fast forward a few weeks to the playoffs against the Giants. The NY Post found Jessica Simpson “look-alike” Lynsey Nordstrom, and had her flown to Dallas from the Seattle area. They put her in the same jersey Simpson wore (see above) and put her in the stands a few rows behind the Cowboys’ bench.

Lynsey
Hilarious! Read all about it here, at the Seattle Times.

On a related playoff note, I think that the Packers and Patriots will win in fairly easy manner today.

Packers 27 – Giants 17
Patriots 34 – Chargers 13

I’m rooting for the underdogs, but it’s probably not going to happen.

And so it ends…

Seahawks At Packers | Photos From Seattlepi.Com
It was a decent year for the Hawks, yesterday’s debacle notwithstanding. Going into the game I predicted a 10 point Seahawks victory. I probably should’ve seen it coming, but I didn’t think the defense would fold the way it did. 6 straight touchdown drives for the Packers is simply inexcusable.

I predict an offseason of major change for this team, starting probably with the coach. If so, it was a good run – the best by far in team history.

Shadow Divers

Now Reading

I’m currently reading “Shadow Divers” by Robert Kurson. I’ve read related books before (The Last Dive by Chowdury being the most obvious example.)

It’s spectacular. The second chapter absolutely nails the NJ wreck diving experience. For History Channel aficionados, you will likely recognize several of the names from the show “Deep Sea Detectives.”
