A future for JPG
Looks like JPG Magazine is back from the brink:
We couldn’t ask for a better community. In the week or so since our last email, the outpour of support has exceeded our wildest expectations. Your efforts, such as starting savejpg.com, writing blog posts, commenting on Twitter and Flickr, and generally making your voices heard, have provided exciting new opportunities for us.
We’re thrilled to say that because of you, we have multiple credible buyers interested in giving JPG a home. We will be keeping the site up after all, and hope to have a final update in the next week or so on who the acquirer will be. Thank you for making all of this possible.

3 Sixes
Cruft has tasked me with posting the Sixth photo from my Sixth page of Flickr. Here it is. Now I’m supposed to send this request on to 6 bloggers I know. Unfortunately, I’m going to fail on that task, as I don’t know that many. However Seattle Karma, Hylander, and Beast – you’re up.

There’s no way this should work, but it does…
Apple’s “App Store” is loaded with cool little applications for the iPhone and Apple Touch, but one of my favorites is “Shazam“.

If you hear a song and you’re curious as to who the artist is, you simply take out your iPhone and turn on Shazam and after a few seconds of listening, it returns with the Title, Artist, and Album. The information is saved to your “Tag list”, and you have the option of buying the song on iTunes or pulling up related videos on Youtube.
I’ve tried to stump this application with obscure songs and music from scratchy radio stations, but it seems to be foolproof. Simply incredible.
Rowing the Pacific

Roz Savage is rowing across the Pacific, and she’s blogging it here.
Bad news today. I cannot get the watermaker to work.
It ran well on Friday, then sputtered to a halt after a minute or so on both Saturday and Sunday, and today again gave up the attempt after a short and feeble effort.
I spent a couple of hours alternating phone calls to Darren at Spectra Watermakers, and head down in the watermaker hatch. I was trying to find signs of corrosion resulting from its dunking a couple of weeks ago, when the hatch flooded, but all the wiring looked fine as far as I could see.
There is one more option still to try – the corrosion may be in the switch panel in the cabin, which also got rather damp during the rough weather – and I will investigate that tomorrow.
But for now it’s looking as if water is going to be in short supply for the rest of my voyage.
