Hewitt Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
A group of us do football picks during the year. The person with the best record at the end gets to pick a single bottle of the beverage of their choice. This year our friend Brian won, and with a bit of persuasion on my part he chose Hewitt Vineyard’s Cabernet Sauvignon. It was $80, which was one of the priciest wines I’ve had in my life. Very, very, good.
Then again, at $80 it could taste like liquified liver and I’d tell you it was spectacular.
Miller Chill
Tastes “ok” provided it’s painfully cold and the temperature outside is over 100 degrees.
Outside those parameters and you’re on your own.
White Sangria
1 large orange, cut into 1/4-inch thick slices
1/2 cup orange juice
1 large lemon, cut into 1/4-inch thick slices
3/4 cup fresh blueberries
3-4 large strawberries, sliced thin
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons Triple Sec
2 tablespoons Cointreau
1 (750-ml.) bottle fruity white wine (Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, etc.)
Drop fruit in large pitcher, and sprinkle sugar over top. Add orange juice. Mix with a large spoon.
Add wine, Cointreau, and Triple Sec. Stir well until sugar is disolved. Refrigerate at least a couple of hours. Overnight is best. as the flavor will develop and improve the longer it sits (although I find it hard to wait that long.)
Serve over ice!
This recipe lends itself well to experimentation – so don’t be afraid to add your favorite fruits.
Tastes Great/Less Filling
Chris says that Miller Light’s commercials are a scam.
I say Chris needs to get a new beer. There was a time when I’d just order “Bud” when stumbling around one dive bar or another, but here in the Philadelphia area, Yuengling (or simply “lager”) is a massive improvement. It’s spreading too…earlier this summer we were able to order Yuengling everywhere we went in upstate NY.
Don’t settle for Bud. Your tastebuds deserve better.
What I did during my summer vacation…
It was a fun-filled week and a half…
- Saw War of the Worlds (6 stars out of 10)
- Saw Batman Begins (8.5 stars out of 10)
- Shaved my beard off.
- Read a book (Shooter.)
- Ate at a Mexican restaurant.
- Went scuba diving, twice.
- Ate at a “Michigan” restaurant.
- Watched fireworks.
- Visited my Alma Mater.
- Took over 700 photos.
- Ate BBQ (several times.)
- Drank Beer.
- Got up early.
- Stayed up late.
- Slept in.
- Drove over 13 hours (round trip.)
Now back to work.
Old Fashioned
Since we’re in the bar construction mood, I submit the following link for your perusal: A True Old Fashioned.
Whenever I mix drinks like this, they end up tasting like straight whiskey with grit at the bottom.
You don’t want to know what my martinis taste like.
