Relaxing after the day’s hike, Brian reads the shelter log:

We were in for a rainy night, but thanks to Brian for having the ambition to start a fire regardless. Wet wood and all.

Seth Warner shelter has had some issues with bears stealing people’s food recently, but thanks to a newly installed “bear box”, the troubles may be over. This locked metal box is bolted to a cement slab, and should keep food safe from hungry bruins.

At night I was certain that I heard the bear circling the camp, and the shuffling, grunting sounds were good for a few tense moments. Eventually, however, I deduced the true cause.

Morning broke and it was still raining. Temperature at dawn was in the low 50′s.

Time to get hiking…
