WALL-E

Lauren and I saw WALL-E tonight. It was “ok”…

This was no Toy Story or Monsters Inc. There was no speaking for about 90% of the film, which may provide a bit of a challenge for some children. The WALL-E character was interesting and funny, but it’s pretty obvious that it was based largely on Number 5 from Short Circuit.

Still, worth seeing. I enjoyed the early scenes of earth in disarray, and Lauren loved all of the cute robots. I also liked the way that WALL-E emitted an “Apple startup sound” when booting up in the morning.

UPDATE – Reviews are trending very positive over on Rotten Tomatoes, but this report in Salon from Stephanie Zacharek mirrors my own thoughts. Looks like we’re in the minority on this one.
