Judging by the pictures you’ve been posting from your iPhone, I’m not too impressed with its exposure capabilities. The pictures are consistently underexposed. Fortunately the quality of the pictures is pretty impressive, but they really need to be lightened up in Photoshop or whatever – seems like kind of a pain for cell phone shots.
How do you feel about this?
The photos that I’ve uploaded this week are direct-from-phone shots, so they’re downsized and unenhanced.
The iPhone has a 2 Megapixel camera, which translates to 1600×1200 resolution normally. There’s no flash and apparently no whitebalancing going on. If light is low the pictures suffer. If you hold the camera too close to the subject or move while taking a picture, it gets ugly.
That said, it’s cell phone camera… That we’re even discussing photo quality is something of a success. I’d call it “good enough” for most blogging applications, but nothing special.
They certainly are about the best cell phone pictures I’ve seen. I hope the auto-exposure improves in iPhone 2.
